10 Functions Every Excel User Should Know

Sharon Jones, Ph.D., thedot. Consulting
During the past 10 years, we have seen a wave of innovative, big-data software designed to analyze, manipulate, and visualize data. Yet, the Microsoft Excel platform remains the go-to product for those looking to report and make sense of their data. However, Excel can be overwhelming and is often underutilized. There are so many functions and formulas available that learning them all sometimes seems like an impossible task. In this session, Dr. Jones will bring clarity around Microsoft Excel functions and highlight 10 functions every Excel user should know and master. Participants will leave with a succinct list of functions that will increase time and productivity.

The cost of this session begins at $100 for members!

2020: A Retrospective View
Steve Parker, Curi and NCMGMA Immediate Past President
Without question, 2020 was "one for the books" for all of us. However, while medical practice executives and practice administrators endured the same pandemic fears, challenges and concerns as the rest of humanity -- they also had to make sure the wheels of healthcare kept turning. That required immense effort – with healthcare leaders improvising, strategy-shifting; jury-rigging, jimmying, and overall MacGyver-ing their clinical and operational procedures as the pandemic evolved. We’ll look back at these efforts – how they evolved over time, where we stand now, what we’ve learned, and how the Covid-19 pandemic may change medical practice operations far into the future.

Opening Session (Tides 1-2)

MGMA Body of Knowledge: Financial Management
Understanding Physician Profitability and Driving Better Results

Jason Deshayes, Cook Wealth Management

Having a strong understanding of your practice's financial model is critical to driving practice profitability and physician compensation that is aligned with outcomes. Often, a practice may be operating on the "same as last year" philosophy without examining whether that model is appropriate for how the practice and its providers operate. This session will cover different financial models and ways to analyze a practice financial statement to more thoroughly understand where opportunities lie that could result in better profitability for the practice.

We Didn’t Mean Forever…™: How We Now View Difficult People

Monica Wofford, CSP

There was a time when all we really wanted was for difficult people to disappear. For some, it could still be true, but it’s also likely we actually miss them in light of all that’s happened. In fact, based on the latest from the author of Make Difficult People Disappear, Monica Wofford, and in using what we’ve learned about stress and the level we’ve all been under, NOW may be the ideal time to spruce up the skills for dealing with people, instead of simply hoping to make them vanish. As this session title reveals, now we might merely want them to behave, versus go entirely away forever and ever. We Didn’t Mean Forever…™ is a powerful session with skill-building and interaction. You’ll learn about yourself and how to work better with others. You’ll gain quick tips on stress coping and longer-term solutions for eliminating it altogether. Whether you need a hug when things get tough or are truly proud of yourself for not needing bail money during the recent year and months, this session clarifies, highlights, and guides you through how to work with any and all others, including patients and doctors. We Didn’t Mean Forever…™ may just be what you need to revive and re-energize the culture and team in your office or practice.

It Works if You Work It™: The Power of Application

Monica Wofford, Contagious Companies

Have you ever overheard patient instructions knowing that patient would never comply with the suggested actions? In healthcare, there are books, sessions, and curriculums focused on the hurdle of patient compliance because their health depends on putting certain actions into practice. In our daily existence, and in the role of leadership, the truth is no one’s going to die if we don’t apply what we now know about emotional intelligence and communication. No rule book says you must comply or use this new knowledge or set of skills, but…what if it were relationships that non-compliance was going to kill? What if your stress went down, the conflict came up less, and drama was not the norm, but the exception?  New skills work if you work ‘em and in this session, you’ll gain guidance on how to apply insights from Monica’s morning presentation, as well as from your entire conference.

Physician Recruitment
Becky Ayers, DHA, MHA, MBA, FACMPE, Orthopedic Center of Florida
The shortage of physicians from primary care to most specialty disciplines continues to grow as the typical American now lives longer with the more complex end of life diagnosis. The pressure is on for healthcare leaders to expand recruitment and retention for optimal patient-centered care with measured results for maximum return on investment. The challenge for healthcare professionals is to find the right physician with skill sets to integrate within their current healthcare organizations in the face of ongoing reimbursement structure, political change, and challenges. Identify the who, what, when, where, why, and how of recruiting and onboarding new physicians.
